Of Fatine and her right to marry

There are many things I’m grateful for in lieu of our Immigration Department, one of which is how fast they can actually prepare a passport in comparison to the other services provided by our government.

However, for an official from that department to simply state that they would take action against a transsexual who is married civilly to a British citizen is irrevocably low, particularly due to the hypocrisy.

Allow me to ask, just how many students who overstayed overseas have been charged by the Immigration Department for overstaying perhaps a year or more in the UK?

And just how hyped up were their cases?

Or is it merely the fact that she’s actually a he that sensationalises this story, thus having your department state that she ‘may face action’ if he violated laws here.

Let’s be frank. Perhaps I’m biased because I’m part of the same community. However, why is that we live in a nation that can’t mind it’s own business as individuals with the liberty to do what they wish without causing harm to others?

The only reason that dishrag of a Malay tabloid called Kosmo published this story is due to sensationalism and the fact that Malaysians in general have not yet accepted the fact that there are among themselves members of society who are sexually inclined towards the same sex, have the personality of the opposite sex in juxtaposed to their physical gender or even those who can’t even stand the idea of sex.

This is just being human, and until Malaysian society in general accepts this fact, we won’t see an end to these issue becoming sensational simply because it’s taboo.

So, in Fatine’s case, and for the sake of her safety, I hope that the English government grants her safe haven in the UK because Malaysian society does not accept her. In fact, her actions are punishable by a biased and hypocritical Malaysian religious law establishment which will include a jail sentence and rehab due to the fact that her actions are deemed ‘unnatural’.

Furthermore, her family has disowned her.

And to Fatine, congratulations on your wedding. Well wishes from the LGBT community of Malaysia. The more pious of us will be praying for your happy future. The lesser wishes you all the best, with hopes that you will finally have all your dreams come true.

And if you ever decide to come back for a visit, do it through Brisbane, then Thailand before arriving here. Seems to have worked for RPK to get out of the country (Berita Harian), so perhaps you could take a page from that book.
