Issue strokes Women - Islamic or Politics?

I have been meaning to write about the abundance of hypocrisy in the caning of the three women for their alleged voluntary confession of illicit sex. However, the universe connived to prevent me from doing so in a timely manner.

However, a learned friend of mine, Shaikh Saleem, has written an excellent article about that issue. I must say everything that he says reflects my sentiments - and even more - on the issue. I can do no better than to reproduce - with his kind permission - his article on the issue.

(Readers of the Federal Court decision in the Nizam vs Zambry case would note that Zambry won by 5-0. However only ONE Judge wrote a judgment. The other 4 just agreed with the one Judge who wrote a judgment. In the truest tradition of these Judges who are inclined to just adopt a judgment written by someone else, even though the matter at hand is so important, I hereby reproduce what these Judges (who do not write judgment but just adopt a judgment) normally say: "I have had the benefit of reading my learned brother's opinion on the matter and I find myself in entire agreement with what has been expressed by him.

I wholeheartedly concur with what he has written and I do not wish to add another word to his otherwise perfect opinion.")

MP Zahrain says he has enough PKR colleagues to give UMNO-BN 2/3rd majority in Parliament

Zahrain: I have the Numbers

Disgruntled PKR MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim has reportedly offered enough Pakatan Rakyat colleagues to Barisan Nasional as to enable their full legislative control of Parliament, but his colleagues dispute he has such numbers.

It is understood that the Bayan Baru MP has offered some 10 lawmakers, including himself, to add to BN’s 137 for a two-thirds parliamentary majority. Such a majority allows the government to pass any law despite opposition from their rivals. BN needs 11 more seats in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat for the psychological majority, and it is learnt that Independent Pasir Mas MP Datuk Ibrahim Ali or even Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin is expected to join the group if the defection happens.

Zulkifli has supported Zahrain in his diatribe against Lim.“I have heard that [there are] three or four who want to leave the party. BN really wants him, too,” Penang PKR chairman Dr Mansor Othman told The Malaysian Insider, referring to his predecessor whom he replaced after winning the Penanti seat and being made deputy chief minister last year.

Zahrain was not available for comments despite several attempts to reach him. He had previously said it was mere speculation that he would leave PKR for former party UMNO or the newly set-up Parti Cinta Malaysia.

Several other PKR and DAP leaders confirmed they have heard news that Zahrain was now gathering allies to make the jump.

“I don’t think he has the numbers. From what I know, it’s just three of them,” a senior DAP leader told The Malaysian Insider. Pakatan Rakyat now has 82 MPs, of which 31 are from PKR including the four from Penang: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Permatang Pauh), Tan Tee Beng (Nibong Tebal), Mohd Yusmadi Yusoff (Balik Pulau) and Zahrain.

Mansor said he was not sure if the MPs are from Penang, other states, or they included those from allies DAP and PAS. “I don’t really know… All I know is that there are some MPs who have expressed an intention to leave the party,” he added.

Speculation that Zahrain could be leaving peaked again when he restarted a simmering feud with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng this week, by calling the DAP leader “a dictator, a chauvinist and communist-minded” and earning brickbats from party colleagues and allies.

He had previously criticised Lim when former Penanti assemblyman and deputy chief minister, Mohamed Fairus Khairuddin quit his post and seat last year.

Mansor said that while the bad blood between Zahrain and Lim was long-standing, news that the PKR leader wanted to quit began very recently and added the matter would be brought up at the party’s special supreme council meeting tomorrow.

The Malaysian Insider understands that the issue will also be discussed at the PR joint leadership council meeting due to take place after tomorrow’s PKR meeting.

DAP parliamentary leader and representative at the PR meeting, Lim Kit Siang, today called for the formation of a disciplinary committee to discuss the cases of intransigence within the pact, saying these cases have dented the coalition’s recent hard-won gains.

Mansor yesterday lamented Zahrain’s statement, which was critical of Lim. “The words were uncalled for and I regret his statement. That is certainly not the way to address our fellow partners in PR,” he said and declined to elaborate further.

The PKR leader said the party will issue a statement on Zahrain’s criticisms against Lim, but coalition insiders believe Anwar might not take action after having failed to admonish his fellow Penangite last year.

Anwar has also been seen as soft on Zulkifli, who has ignored a party gag order by continuing to make comments on the “Allah” issue.

Muslims Have No Monopoly over ‘Allah’

From Wall Street journal

By Anwar Ibrahim

Malaysia has once again resurfaced in international headlines for the wrong reasons. Over the last two weeks, arsonists and vandals attacked 10 places of worship, including Christian churches and Sikh temples. Though there were no injuries and the material damage is reparable, the same cannot be said about the emotional and psychological scars left behind. After numerous conflicting statements from government officials, the underlying causes of the violence are still unaddressed. Malaysia’s reputation as a nation at peace with its ethnic and religious diversity is at stake.

Malaysia’s poor handling of religious and sectarian issues is not unique. The ill treatment of minority groups in Muslim countries is often worse than the actions Muslims decry in the West. I have called attention to the broader need in the Muslim world for leadership that demonstrates consistency and credibility in our call for justice, fairness and pluralism. These values are embedded in the Islamic tradition as the higher objectives of Shariah expounded by the 12th-century jurist al-Shatibi.

We have seen Muslims around the world protest against discriminatory laws passed in supposedly liberal and progressive countries in the West. Yet just as France and Germany have their issues with the burqa and Switzerland with its minarets, so too does Malaysia frequently fail to offer a safe and secure environment that accommodates its minority communities.

The recent arson attacks exemplify what’s wrong with the way Malaysia regards its non-Muslim citizens. The attacks were provoked by a controversy over the use of the word “Allah” by Malaysia’s Christian community, which numbers over two million, or about 10% of the population. In late 2007, the Home Ministry banned the use of the word by the Herald, a Catholic newspaper, and later confiscated 15,000 copies of Malay-language Bibles imported from Indonesia in which the word for God is translated as “Allah.” A Dec. 31, 2009 ruling by the Kuala Lumpur High Court overruled the earlier ban, asserting constitutional guarantees regarding the freedom of religion in Malaysia. Since then, an already tense situation boiled over, largely due to incitement by a few reckless politicians, the mainstream media and a handful of nongovernmental organizations linked by membership and leadership to the United Malays National Organization, the ruling party.

For example, Utusan Malaysia, the nation’s largest Malay-language daily—which is also owned by UMNO—has inflamed Muslim religious sentiments by accusing non-Muslims of desecrating the name of the “Muslim” God and alleging a Christian conspiracy to overrun this predominantly Muslim nation through conversion. I have seen these incendiary propaganda techniques used before, when politicians and demagogues exploit public sentiment to garner support by fomenting fear. Such tactics are useful diversions from embarrassing scandals ranging from controversial court decisions, to allegations of exorbitant commissions extracted from military procurements, to the theft of two jet engines from the inventory of the Royal Malaysian Air Force. This behavior has been exacerbated since the ruling party lost its two-thirds majority in parliament last year. UMNO is now desperately struggling to regain public support.

Few Muslims around the world would endorse the claim that we have a monopoly on the word “Allah.” It is accepted that the word was already in the lexicon of pre-Islamic Arabs. Arabic’s sister Semitic languages also refer to God as “Allah”: namely, “Elaha” in Aramaic, and “Elohim” in Hebrew. Historical manuscripts prove that Arabic-speaking Muslims, Christian and Jews have collectively prayed to God, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, as “Allah” for over 1,400 years. The history of Islam in Southeast Asia is known for its pluralistic and inclusive traditions, and amicable relations between Muslims and non-Muslims have been the norm for generations.

Muslim scholars outside of Malaysia thus find our “Allah” issue absurd and cannot fathom why it has sparked protest and outrage. Minority Muslim populations living in the West, particularly in the aftermath of 9/11, have diligently tried to remind the public that Muslims, Christians and Jews share common Abrahamic roots and ultimately worship the same God.

Local sensitivities have been aroused over this issue. They should be handled through dialogue and engagement. Instead of permeating a sense of insecurity or a siege mentality, Muslims must be encouraged to engage and present their concerns to the Christians in a constructive manner. The example of Muslim Spain is a moment in our history to which Malaysian Muslims should aspire. But efforts toward fostering a convivencia are not only found in the past. The ongoing “Common Word” initiative, a global effort launched in 2007 that captured the support of over 130 of the world’s most prominent Muslim scholars, has made historic progress towards building goodwill among Muslims and Christians to find ways to live in sincere peace and harmony. It is ironic that noble efforts such as these are being undone by the actions of Muslims themselves.

Malaysia’s international reputation has taken a beating since Prime Minister Najib Razak was sworn in last year. Despite his efforts to promote national unity, news about the caning of a young Muslim woman charged with drinking, the mutilation of a cow head in protest of the construction of a Hindu temple, ill treatment of Muslim converts who revert to their earlier faith and even the outlawing of the practice of yoga by Muslims have many at home and abroad wondering which direction Malaysia is headed under Mr. Najib’s leadership. There are already misgivings about governance, human rights, the rule of law and rampant corruption; Malaysia dropped 10 spots on Transparency International’s 2009 Corruption Perception Index, our worst showing in over 15 years. The vision of Malaysia as a peaceful and stable location for investment, tourism and migration is now in peril.

This matters most for Malaysians who have to contend with an increasingly polarized social and political landscape. Malaysia cannot afford to be held hostage by the vested interests of a few who manipulate faith and identity as a means to elicit fear for political and economic gain. This is old politics, and it has become clear that those who incite hatred are only doing so to prolong their monopoly on power. The majority of Malaysians reject this approach. They realize that overcoming the challenges we face—a stagnant economy, declining educational standards and rising crime—depends on our ability as a nation to internalize and make real the principles of fairness and justice to all.

Why Jet F5E not brought to the Military Court as KD Inderapura - Mahfuz

PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar disputed the occurrence of cases selected in the Ministry of Defense to cause loss of engine jet F5E Cases not brought to court as the case made KD Seri Inderapura which former Chief Government ship brought to the Military Court as a result of burns on 8 last October.

"Congratulations on the Navy must maintain a culture of leaders responsible for what happens under their auspices. But why should not occur in the Royal Malaysian Air Force jet engine when F5E lost a leader but not responsible or liable to action by the Military Court charged, "Mahfuz said in his statement.

According to him, who is also Member of Parliament Pokok Sena, Ministry of Defense should not be choosing the case and should be more transparent because it involves the interests and safety of the people.

"Why did former Panglim RMAF and former Defense Minister also brought to the Military Court for loss of engine F5E hide from public knowledge for nearly two years.

'It seems no matter who tries to conceal larger when the Commonwealths Attorney only just announced the results of police investigation found no superior RMAF and the loss involved in MINDEF.

In the development of the record also challenging the Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Penglima officials who disclose government camps during RMAF jet engine F5E lost and what the superior officer in the Army brought to the Court as the case of fire KD Inderapura.

KHALID SAMAD, Political Leaders, The Brave, Principled & Integrity

Khalid Samad of PAS is a political leader who I respect because he dared to defend the matter or principle is true although some people may think it will be lost in terms of politics.

That's what distinguishes politicians who have intellectual and political integrity of the person and the nature of two-bit opportunist. People usually do not understand voracious issues dealt with, or if he even understood the issue, the type that will continue to get acting berdrama and support people with diperalatkan through speech and emotional sensations.

Enactment Selangor Islamic Religious Issues

Khalid I see as a bold man when he says Islam Selangor Enactment 1988 to ban the use of words such as divine, prophets, revelation, mosques and others to non-Muslims are no longer appropriate and necessary reform.

Proposals have been brilliant but he gives space to a group of Islamic NGOs to make a police report against Khalid ostensibly on the grounds of insulting Islam and the Sultan. These reactions are not familiar with the group KIMIA and discussion and dissent.

They only want Khalid executed and closed mouth and mind. Efforts to understand and discuss the views he did not directly important for the group of Islamic NGOs. That are important to them, Khalid must be punished.

Khalid actual purpose, in my opinion, is this: prohibition against non-Muslims from using certain words by the Islamic Religious Council in any state once it must be understood in sabenar contacts.

Prohibition of the Federal Constitution About Islam

Any principles or rules must be viewed and studied in particular contacts. Contacts prohibition untok non-Muslims from using certain words must be seen from the contacts that the prohibition of the Federal Constitution does not allow people of other religions and try to persuade untok "convert" or change the religion of Islam.

So the purpose of Enactment is secucok with and based on the Federal Constitution. Law Enactment of Islamic states, including invalid if it violates federal laws.

Under the Constitution we are people of other religions are not allowed to influence or persuade the Muslims to embrace their religion. This prohibition stipulated by the Constitution.

So if they I intend pujuk dakwahkan or their religion to Muslims, then reason why they can not use perkataaan gazetted under the Enactment.

Which means the prohibition to use the words listed includes the name of God only in the context of when a person is trying to influence Muslims.

For example, if a priest or monk who met several times with a Muslim to talk about how Christianity according to the bosom of Islam-so is using the word Allah, prophets and revelation, then the basic prohibition situlah terpancar valid. This is because the word is used in context to attract Muslims to change religion. Enactment is the purpose that lah.

Use words of Allah, Revelation, prophet, mosques and so forth by non-Muslims

But use the word God, revelation, prophets, mosques and others in the context of speech can not be prohibited common.

For example, if children singing Ah Chong of Selangor or Johor seeking God prolong life or Sultan Sami Velu asked neighbors "Ahmad, I to the mosque to you this evening?", Then it can not be wrong.

* Where there are laws in the world that can legally prohibit the public use of a word.

* What is the basic prohibition?

* What if people think the Malays do not gunakankan name of India said at Proton Iswara Iswara is because one of the names of Hindu gods?

Similarly, if the Malays are asked not to use the Sanskrit word such as heaven, hell, sin, reward and so on.

Khalid should indeed be praised for want truth. Because you want to clarify and update the Enactment. Muslims understand what the purpose of the prohibition be and what the purpose of the Enactment is not clear.

Group Islamic NGOs should support the streamlined so that Ebnakmen 1988 and explained clearly.

Then people said we Muslims understand this and understand their own religion law country.

If you follow the sentiment and emotion to reject the truth, then do not blame others if they argue Muslims fear shadows shadows.

Fear fee dialogue and discussion, and just like the law only. Samoga Khalid won again in Selangor

Hisham said the study will be submitted to the Cabinet before submission to the House of Commons.

Study of the act also includes matters related to financial resources to carry out activities of a party or parties to purchase the building.

He explained the proposed act to create political parties that need the support not only from the ruling party but also the opposition.

Church issues: PAS Kesal Search Hishammuddin Give Two Anwar

Dari Harakah Daily

Very frustrated by the fact the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein who threatened to take action to Advisory Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the government claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) failed to curb attacks on churches and accusing Umno as real mastermind in the matter.

According to Chief Information Center PAS, Ustaz Idris Ahmad, Anwar what the perception is that Malaysian society at this time and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) to take appropriate statement as an admonition.

Kastanya, the perception of people also saw that Umno try mendalangi issue where the purpose is broad mendalangi because everything stems from the weakness of Umno leaders who get everything one as Minister of State but failed to play a role.

"KDN accordingly resolve this issue by diplomacy and negotiation, rather than letting NGOs pro Umno menghangatkan this issue with various demonstration and provocation," he said in a statement issued here, today.

Specifically, PAS duty to respect the police and KDN, KDN act but humidity can cause the issues that led to prolonged tension.

He said, repeatedly mentioned that Hishammuddin KDN already identify the suspect, but until today no one even made arrests in which ministers should 'walk the talk' not 'walk the talk' only.

He said, threatening a second time yesterday about the use of the ISA also strengthen the perception that ministers were trying to close the weaknesses in managing the issue.

"If you have only addressed issues that failed, ministers will ugut ISA, ISA ugut sikit-sikit, kind temperament slave kindergarten. PAS firm to reject ISA and want it repealed, "he said.

PAS also, he saw a second warning to the use of the ISA Ops Lalang in which both those who are not guilty be brought to court, but those who question the action of wet KDN also detained in Kamunting.

He added that this clearly as a strategy to make the BN so dominant, but with experience that is, political percaturan BN has not read people.

In this regard, he reminds KDN to act smart, not lust, political ministers who want to save the party is now desperate to restore confidence and people want to be seen 'people's champion' at the expense of Alliance leadership.

"PAS hope this issue can be resolved through prosecution in the courts and urge all parties to continue to remain calm as well as strengthening the unity and mutual compromise," she said.

Between RPK and Ku Seman

I do not recognize the Ku Seman, not RPK. I had just read my writing when he Seman 'bertelagah' with the late Sudirman Haji Arshad before crowned Asia's best performer at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1989.

Allow me to return some memory to my brother Seman gentleman reader for viewing.

Episode pertelegahan Ku Seman Sudirman published by Utusan Malaysia late 80s leaving deep effect until changed my perception about the greatness of his practice ethical journalism. Not long word I lebarkan but just enough to remind him how to make personal attacks against Sudir. Not enough mempersoal with more spectacular success Sudir hundred thousand viewers during the concert held at the Chow Kit (15 April 1986), vocal and personal Sudir also attacked. I hope, I can Seman disputing what I wrote back with the broadcast series 'pertelagahan' without moderated.

Today I read the script I Seman quoted by Malaysia Today.

If RPK own answer, may be difficult to understand because Ku Seman it usually written in English. So, let me answer it in Malay (Bahasa Malaysia is not).

Ku Seman writes "He (RPK) want to show the material published in Malaysia Today did not dare broadcast by media organizations credible"

Certainly more bersuluh. Since political parties to press the prime employer, newspapers Utusan Malaysia and in particular forced to change the Qiblah Tower Dato 'Onn the UMNO headquarters is located. Mind and writing balaci-balacinya (journalist) terkongkong. Anyone who dared menerjah out of 'prison mentality', lost the source address search. How many times have Utusan broadcast news and similar writings that published in Malaysia Today?

And I certainly Seman discerning why balaci chief named Zainudin Maidin (ZAM) was forced to retire from The Star.

Ku Seman connect "He (RPK) do not understand the definition of defamation and was never responsible for what is written"

My question, "What Connection Johan Jaafar, DSAI and Messenger?"

Once Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sacked from the post of Deputy Prime Minister, where the Ku Seman when mainstream newspapers 'party'? DSAI has 'dibogelkan', Humiliated, indicted, tried and punished by the government-owned newspaper shortly before the prosecution conducted. Fitnahkah not name if sensationalise news authentic disputed by many people thought that sane?

Ku Seman certainly understand Malay proverb, "Do not spit into the sky, later fell to the self."

Radio again "But he (RPK) is not one-one. Also non-journalist, a far cry authors who had served with credible media organization "

What Is Wibawa? Remove the symbol of Barisan Nasional listed in the umbrella that covers the body of murder victim on 9.11.2009 that berwibawakah name? Refer to "art-haron.blogspot.com"

When UMNO (Mahathir) conflicted with the court, and media such as thatch scattered, according melintuk blow, dancing pace and requirements of the government, blame the Malay rulers, where Ku Seman and Messenger at the time? Berwibawakah journalists and media injected into pig nose?

Nik Aziz: Polemik word God as a result of political interest

KOTA BARU, Jan 6 - Mursyidul Am PAS Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat described Polemik involving supporters of political parties and non-governmental organizations since Thursday and issues relating to the use of word "Allah" as though there is trickery behind their actions.

In this regard he said, the confusion that exists regarding the issue actually stems from ideology "political religion quarter quarter."

"This two-day arise pasal word 'Allah', Christians can use or not. In various newspaper report about it. What is it that ni?

"Ambo (I) think these issues have so far not only shrimp behind the stone, even bekali (may) have crocodiles," he said during his talk generally in Medan Ilmu last night.

Sparked controversy now use words "Allah" as a result of the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision to allow its use in production week Herald newspaper.

Kelantan Menteri Besar said he was surprised the group criticized the use of the word "God" from being used by groups from other religions is that during the quarter to distinguish political religion quarter.

"The Beriya-iya very heat of this ... understand what is God to you?

"He is not the fortune was all-gala. For humans, many people across the nations, various religions. Create oxygen, hydrogen and others.

"The highlight issues the larger these are people who say religion quarter duk lah political quarter.

"Who taught knowledge like this? He taught others can not use the word 'God' but in the same time he called a political religion quarter quarter. I probably understand the meaning of Allah's word," he said.

Sunday Nik Aziz made a statement and use of word "Allah" by Herald according to religious practitioners Samawi not an offense.

But what is worrying people is if this word misused.

Yesterday PAS stand out with its official stressed the word "Allah" is allowed to be used by religious Samawi as Christians and Jews.

However PAS asserted that the use of word "Allah" is wrong and is not responsible should be avoided so that it is not an issue that may affect racial and religious harmony in this country.

Zaid: Alliance need to restore 'honor' political

PETALING JAYA, Dec 23 - Pakatan Rakyat (PR) must fight for the issues and interests of all people regardless of race and religion to restore dignity to the political struggle in this country.

Former minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pictured) who is now with Parti Keadilan Rakyat, one component of PR, said the challenge now is to prove that the bonds Muafakat true among many people.

With reference to the successful organization of PR inaugural convention last Saturday, Zaid said PR should run the state administration and the country a fair and equitable.

"This is actually the challenges that await us all," he said in the IJ.

"We need to show people that we bring the message and a different political ideology," he said.

He added, Policy PR own party agreed three components is a new paradigm in national politics.

"The success of the Convention can not be denied. Umno and certainly the media will continue his efforts memperlekehkan noble and say that we all talk-talk is empty and only can not be implemented.

"Some people say, no matter which highlighted new. There is also accused PAS soak Islamnya struggle. This is the normal way we hear them; low-low, insulting and denying good efforts of others.

"In fact, they are not ashamed admit that they appreciate these teachings and practices of Islam," he said.

Even so, he said, the most significant and obvious is the PR has been unanimously united to adhere to four basic core.

Political situation in Malaysia deepened?

The political situation in Malaysia so warm since the end - the end of this. Can say every day there are only issues - new issues that are sometimes sensitive produce.

Difficult for us to assess the extent keihklasan leaders of the government whether it would like to lead the opposition in this country rule.

Sometimes a good leader and have the best kreadibiliti victims by politicians who are not responsible seeks to drop a personal interest.

For my opinion, from fun cause issues - issues that are not useful better to act immediately against any problem faced by the people.
